Season / Climate: The best time of year to visit is from May to September, when the skies are clear mosto f the time. The snowline starts at 4,600 meters, 15,088 feet. Nights are cold and high altitude and cool in Huaraz and other towns.
Festivals: Huaraz Carnival (February).
Mountain Sports Week (May/June): Throughout the Callejón de Huaylas, with internacional competitions.
Feast of San Pedro de Corongo (June 29): Religious, and popular celebration famous for its Las Pallas Dance.
Aniversary of Huaraz (25 July).
Gastronomy: Picante de Cuy Frito: stewed guinea pig in a peanut and hot chilli pepper sauce.
Cuchikanca: tender suckling pig marinated in vinegar and roasted.
Charqui: salt-dried llama jerky.
Pecan Caldo: sheepshead soup with trip.
Pachamanca: various kind of meat, potatoes and tender corn cooked onderground over hot stones.
Art & Craft: The local craftsmanship stands out for tradicional costumes and colorfully-embroidered petticoats. Local craftsmen also make tradicional candles that are widely used in religious processions. Other ítems incluye Chavin lambswool, blankets, Tarica pottery, wrought iron objects, embossed leather, baskes and textiles and ponchos made of llama wool.
