Festivals: Cajamarca Carnival (February): Carnibal is one of the city´s leading celebrations.

Fiesta de las Cruses (March/ April, movable): Celebrated during Easter Week. The townspeople carry over 50 heavily decorated crosses in this Palm Sunday processión.

Festival of San Juan Bautista (June 24): Religios and social activities plus arts and crafts exhibitions.

Cajamarca FONGAI Fair (July 24-31): Regional agricultural, livestock and industrial fair.

Señor de Huamantanga (September 23-25): Regional trade fair.

 

Gastronomy: Picante de Papa con Cuy Frito: guinea pig stew with peanut and hot chilli pepper sauce.

Chicharron con Mote: pork fritters served with steamed corn.

Humitas: sweet cornmash dessert stuffed with cinamon and raisins.

Caldo Verde: potatoe soup with locally-grown aromatic herbs.

 

Art & Craft: Cajamarca artisans work with a variety of materials: wool, leáther, wood,cactus thread, clay and stone, wich they use to portray their customs and traditions.
